Monday 22 March – Sunday 28 March 2010
Families living in and around Highfield were invited to take part in various activities during ‘Healthy Highfield’ week. Gateshead Council worked in partnership with local groups and organizations to provide a week long programme of events to promote healthy lifestyles and opportunities to get active in Highfield. Children and young people from St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Highfield Primary School and Hookergate School took part in a dance performance held at Hookergate School on Saturday 27 March. They performed alongside dancers from other local groups and the performers ranged from 4 years to over 80 years of age! The groups performed routines that had been rehearsed for the past 10 weeks with dance leaders from Dance City and the Baretoed Company. The dancers wowed the audience with their energy and enthusiasm and the audience took part in a ‘healthy lifestyles’ quiz and enjoyed non-alcoholic cocktails. At the end of the afternoon the audience was invited to learn some line dance routines and the event finished with an interesting version of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
