An allocation of funding to the Lord Lawson Cluster Group was used to provide each school in the cluster with a large LCD screen television to display information to the public, pupils and staff with regards to the extended services and activities available at each school within the cluster and other providers in the area.

The cluster identified the need to link service providers and schools together to provide a one-stop-shop for pupils, their families and the wider community to sign-post them to information as to whats available in the area. Consultation with school staff, parents and carers supported this project and the screens are now up and running in each school.

As a phase 2 children centre, Birtley Children Centre is the first in Gateshead to offer extended services for children, young people and their families 0 – 19 years. Co-ordinating a menu of Children Centre and Extended Schools ‘Core’ activities and services that meet the needs of all children and young people.

A summer of consultation with parents, children and young people has enabled Children Centre staff to develop a timetable of activities for the under 5’s.
