From 1st June 2009 – 30th August 2009 Fell Dyke Community Primary School, Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School and Brighton Avenue Primary School will open part of their grounds to the public for free use of their grounds and equipment, providing children, young people, their families and the whole community with a safe place to play.
This is part of a pilot scheme to make better use of the facilities they offer to the wider community. Schools are often at the heart of a community, but are not used by local people once the school day is over. That is now set to change – with these three schools spearheading the pilot.
They will allow children, young people and their families to use their school grounds and play equipment for free – at certain times during term time and holidays.
The schools boast the following facilities:
Brighton Ave – football field, all weather pitch, fixed play equipment, picnic benches
Sacred Heart – football field, fixed play equipment
Fell Dyke – school field, trim trails, climbing frame, parallel bars, playground, multi-use games area
Please note sites will operate a no smoking policy and no dogs, bikes or motor-bikes will be allowed.
Opening times are as follows:
Term-Time (1st June 2009 - 19th July 2009)
Mon-Fri - 5-8pm
Sat and Sun - 9am-10pm
Holidays (20th July 2009 - 30th August 2009)
Mon-Fri - 9am-8pm
Sat and Sun - 9am-10pm

I live in Bensham and think this is a great idea. My kids have been playing football in the street for years so at last they have a safe place to play. Every school schould do this.
